The members of the Traffic Division are currently certified and assigned to the Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) of the Dartmouth Police Department.
These officers have received specialized training in the field of Accident Reconstruction, laser scene mapping, CAD diagramming, and other investigative techniques that will determine the proximate cause of the collision and aid investigating officers in determining the responsible parties.
The CRU also works closely with the District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police CPAC Unit and other governmental and civilian agencies during the investigative process.
The CRU is subject to call outs 24 hours a day whenever a collision may involve the death of a person, serious injury which may cause the death of a person, school bus crashes, departmental involved vehicle crashes and other circumstances that involve advanced crash investigation.
